The 2nd Saturday art receptions in Palatka happen every second Saturday of the month from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Larimer Arts Center, 216 Reid Street, in downtown Palatka. Local artists from Gathering Artists of Putnam host the evening, so you can walk the current exhibit, meet the people who made the work, and talk with neighbors who care about the arts as much as you do.

The next reception is Saturday, October 10, 2026. After that, mark your calendar for November 14 and December 12.
If you’ve been looking for an easy, low-key way to spend a Saturday evening downtown, this is it. Two hours, a beautiful historic building, and a room full of local art.
What Are the 2nd Saturday Art Receptions in Palatka?
The 2nd Saturday Art Receptions are a monthly open-house evening at the Larimer Arts Center, organized by Gathering Artists of Putnam. The group describes itself as local artists and community members who bring people together through the arts, and these receptions are the most regular way they do it.
Each reception is built around whatever exhibit is on the walls that month. Gathering Artists of Putnam rotates group shows through the Larimer, and 2026 has already included themed exhibits such as a black-and-white group show and a water-and-botanical show called Aqua-Flora.

What to Expect at a Larimer Arts Center Reception
Expect a relaxed walk-through, not a formal gallery opening. People drift between the exhibition rooms, stop to talk with artists standing near their work, and catch up with friends in the lobby. Two hours is plenty of time to see everything without rushing.
Meeting the artists
The artists showing at the Larimer are local, which is the whole point of the evening. You can ask a painter about their technique or a photographer where a shot was taken, and get an answer from the person who made it.
Buying local art
Much of the work on display is for sale. According to member artists, a share of sales supports Gathering Artists of Putnam’s programming, so a purchase helps keep these evenings going.
Who the evening suits
The receptions suit couples looking for a date night, families introducing kids to art, newcomers who want to meet people, and longtime locals who haven’t been inside the Larimer in years.
The Larimer Arts Center: Palatka’s Historic Art Venue
Half the reason to go is the building itself. The Larimer Arts Center started life as the Larimer Memorial Library, built in 1929 and commissioned by James Ross Mellon, a wealthy seasonal resident who named it for his wife, Rachel Hughey Larimer.
Jacksonville architect Henry John Klutho designed it in a mix of Prairie School and Art Deco styles. Inside you’ll still find terrazzo floors, suspended globe lights, and a segmented skylight, and “Knowledge is Power” is carved across the front.
The library became the Larimer Arts Center in 1992, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Today it’s home to the River City Players community theater, the Arts Alliance of Putnam, and Gathering Artists of Putnam, which makes it the busiest arts address in the county.

How to Plan Your 2nd Saturday Evening in Downtown Palatka
The reception is short, which makes it an easy anchor for a longer evening downtown.
Getting there and parking
The Larimer sits at the corner of Reid and Third Streets in downtown Palatka. Parking is available behind the building, and street parking is usually easy to find on a Saturday evening.
Before the reception
Gathering Artists of Putnam also runs a gallery at 712 St. Johns Avenue, a short walk away. Stop by in the afternoon if it’s open, then head to the Larimer at 5:00.
One scheduling note: the Palatka Farmers Market runs on the first and third Saturdays of the month, so it won’t be on during a 2nd Saturday reception.
After the reception
Wrap up with dinner downtown. St. Johns Avenue has local restaurants within walking distance, and the St. Johns River waterfront is a nice spot to catch the last of the evening light.
Why Events Like This Matter If You’re Moving to Palatka
When buyers ask me what everyday life in Palatka feels like, monthly events like these are a big part of my answer. A free-to-walk-in art night in a 1929 landmark tells you a lot about a town: people show up, artists stay local, and downtown is worth spending an evening in.
Downtown Palatka’s historic districts put you within walking distance of the Larimer, and prices there still haven’t caught up with the revival downtown has seen. You can read more in my guide to the best neighborhoods in Putnam County FL.
